By the end of the first quarter of fiscal years 2021-22, the much-anticipated Tesla Model 3 Electric Sedan will be officially sold in the region. In January 2021, reservations for the new model will open. Tesla cars would initially be launched as a CBU unit, but at a later stage local development will commence.


Before the end of this quarter, Mahindra will unleash the much hoped-for eKUV100 mini SUV. The new electric mini SUV will cost Rs 8.25, which was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo (ex-showroom). The electric mini SUV has an electrical 40 kW engine that produces a torque of 53 bhp and 120Nm. The Mini SUV has a 15.9 kWh battery pack of lithium-ion which provides a total charge of 120km. The eKUV100 takes around 1 hour to charge up to 80% with DC fast adapter.


Before the end of this year, the widely awaited XUV300 will begin. The range of 200 km and 350-400 km, respectively, is available in two versions – Regular and Long Range. The system involves 350V powertrain, 60kW to 280 kW electric motors and batteries of up to 80kW. The exterior and interior of the ICE (Interior Combustion Engine) model would be subtly different.


In the first half of 2021, Porsche is officially launching the Taycan all-electric in the region. The Taycan is the first all-electric vehicle ever to be built on the Mission E model. It uses two permanently excited PMS engines that produce over 600bhp combined power. A single charge is expected to give the electric car a range of 500km. In less than 3.5 seconds it will reach 0-100kph and 200kph in less than 12 seconds. In just 22.5 minutes, the battery can be charged to 80%. With a high-power charging network the electric car can be powered in just 5 minutes with a range of 100 km.


Tata Motors will launch the Altroz hatchback electric derivative in the country at end 2021 with an excellent response for the Nexon EV. The Nexon EV comes with a 30,2 kWh IP67-certified battery pack that includes a permanent AC motor. It is probably equipped with the AC Nexon EV. It is estimated that the Altroz EV will cover 250km to 300km. The battery can be charged by DC quick charger up to 80% in 60 mins, with a regular power socket fully charged in 8 hours.
